Today Sony announced that Battlefield 3 expansions will have a one week head start on the Playstation 3, starting with the “Back to Karkand” expansion set to release later this year.
It was only a matter of time before Sony and EA made arrangements for Battlefield 3, considering Microsoft and Activision have had an exclusive deal with Call of Duty DLC over the past couple of years. Granted I find it peculiar only insofar that Battlefield has historically sold better on the Xbox 360, but then again this may tip things in favor of Sony.
As noted, the exclusive starts with the “Back to Karkand” expansion, which will be available later this year. The expansion includes four remastered Battlefield 2 maps, including the popular Wake Island. The expansion is available for free with all first-run copies of Battlefield 2 for all platforms. Unfortunately, it seems that the expansion won’t be downloadable right out of the gate.
Battlefield 3 is scheduled to release on October 25, 2011 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. Also, keep in mind that the Open Beta kicks off on September 29 for all platforms.
