Last month rumors were swirling around the internet that Prey 2 had been cancelled. Luckily that’s not the case, as Bethesda have announced today that the game is still in development, but will now be skipping its planned 2012 release window, because “the game does not currently meet our (Besthesda’s) quality standards.”
Bethesda released a PR statement regarding the games delay and honestly it seems like the game is in a lot more trouble than initially thought.
Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
If the statement above is to be believed, then cancellation rumors were pretty accurate given how brutally honest and disappointed Bethesda seems to be with the current state of the game. Here’s hoping things turn around because the concept for the game sounds amazing and it looked amazing as well. In my opinion, I think they should drop the Prey name and create a completely new franchise, but hey what do I know.
