After months of rumors Sony has finally revealed their Super Smash Bros. style fighting game featuring your favorite Playstation mascots. Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale will feature tons of characters from Playstation’s long history and allow them to square off in four player multiplayer arena based battles across themed levels from Sony’s top franchises.
The first set of characters to be unveiled are Kratos, Sly Cooper, Fat Princess, Sweet Tooth, Parappa the Rapper and Killzone’s Colonel Radec, each which have their own unique move-sets and three different super levels. More characters are set to be announced over the coming months, including third-party characters, which have had a huge influence on the Playstation brand over the years. The list of characters to choose from is long and Playstation mainstays, such as Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter and Nathan Drake are sure to make an appearance, but it’s the third-party characters that have me most intrigued.
Along with the first set of characters are four of the initial stages, including Hades (God of War), Dreamscape (LittleBigPlanet), Sandover Village (Jak & Daxter) and Metropolis (Ratchet & Clank). The interesting aspect to the stages are their ability to transform and depict scenes and characters from other Playstation franchises. A very nice touch and a great way to change-up the pace of a battle.
The game is being developed by SuperBot Entertainment, who were a part of Sony Santa Monica. Beyond that you can expect to have both a singleplayer and multiplayer component to the game, including online play and tournaments. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to E3 and in the meantime check out the debut trailer and screenshots below.
